Expert Advice: How to Pick the Perfect Ring

Engagement season is nearly here and you and your significant other may be shopping for a certain sparkler that will be the perfect fit for both your budget and personal style. To help bring clarity to the ring selection process, we reached out to Beverly Hills-based Trumpet & Horn co-founder, Kim Heidenreich. KNOW YOUR BUDGET

This is a tricky subject for some couples. Often the person proposing would prefer that the whole experience be a surprise for their S.O's.  The problem is you may not be on the same page. When it comes time to choose, it can be quite awkward if one person is looking at $20,000 rings and the other has a $5,000 budget in mind.  Knowing your price range is a huge first step in the right direction.

Tell a Friend

Your significant-other is likely to be looking for all the help they can get. When you think they may be getting close to popping the question, it doesn't hurt to tell your closest friends and family what rings you love and what your ring size is.  Sharing a Pinterest board with your friends is also a great idea.

If you're shopping online, be sure the store has a good return and exchange policy. This is a huge plus for those who aren't quite sure what their S.O. loves and helps ensure that they will ultimately find your dream gem.

Define Your Style

As much as we all love diamonds, the ring (mounting) is truly the most defining component.  Proportions & scale are a big deal. Do you have petite hands or exceptionally long fingers? Do you love simple solitaires or something more alternative?  Each ring presents unique personality on your hand. You want a look that compliments your hand and flaunts your style. It's a good idea to sneak a few appointments in to try on styles before the proposal so you know what styles look best on you.
